Posted May 8, Note that if you try installing more recent ALPS drivers intended for multitouch pads, you will likely get a BSoD blue-screen and be forced to boot with “last known good configuration” then uninstall the drivers, then install these. This seems to be ideal for external mice, although for my Logitech mice, I do use SetPoint and don’t have SetPoint set to override the Windows Mouse settings. I personally do have the locking-up issue, but I hate Dell’s version, so I just deal with it and go back into standby, resume again, and I have a trackpad again.

I am successfully using this version on a Dell Precision M 3-button pointing stick plus 3-button trackpad and a Toshiba Tecra M7. A red ‘X’ appears over the touchpad icon in the systray when it is disabled.

The new version on the HP website recognizes the track-stick and touchpad, but as soon as a setting is changed, the stick and pad are both disabled on a Dell Precision M Just wanted to let everyone know that the Dell version of the Alps drivers ‘Charlie T’ posted above also work just fine in my old Dell Latitude [which is NOT on their list of affected models].
